Diamonds

Less than 5% of all diamonds

Millions of carats are mined every year in the world, but out of all these rough diamonds, only less than 5% are of high enough quality to be used for jewelry.

In the diamond world, there are some very clear international guidelines for how to assess the individual diamond. Here you work from the 4 Cs: Cut, Color, clarity and Caratweight, which determine the value and rarity of the stone. The higher one goes up on the scale of the 4 C’s, the more rare and thus also more expensive the stone becomes.

At Theodor Cph, we have chosen to work from Top Wesselton to River on the color scale. We only select stones from VS2 to Flawless on the clarity scale, as these diamonds are referred to as ‘eyeclean’. At Theodor Cph, we focus from Very Good cut to Excellent and Hearts & Arrows on the grinding scale. With us, we only work with natural, untreated diamonds that have undergone a thorough quality check, as we want to give our customers the best quality and exclusivity. We recommend that if you buy a stone over 0.30 ct, a certificate must be included.

Sapphires & Spinels

One in every one hundred

Heat treatment is used on 99.9% of all sapphires. Untreated sapphires are called untreated sapphires which makes a big difference in price.

When assessing the value of sapphires and spinels, as with diamonds, use the 4 C's. But in addition, the stones are also assessed on the basis of some more subjective criteria. In the world of sapphires and spinels, the gems look a little different. Here, the stones may have inclusions, as this indicates that they are untreated. Sapphires and spinels come in all the colors of the rainbow, however, the reds are called rubies.

The sapphire is a symbol of sincerity, fidelity, sympathy, harmony, friendship, love and loyalty, Sapphires contribute to mental clarity and understanding of the outside world. People who are stressed and have a hard time seeing things from the bright side when they are in adversity will have a lot of fun wearing sapphire jewelry. Sapphires are also said to be able to improve the economy - something that many will probably see the benefits of nowadays.

At Theodor Cph, we only have untreated gemstones that nature has created for them.

The mystery of the East

Precious metals

Gold is one of the most sought after metals available. Both when it comes to jewelry and as a safe investment and commodity

Gold has fascinated over the millennia, always being surrounded by mystery. Gold, its color giving associations to the sun, has been used as an important part of religious ceremonies throughout time. Throughout history, gold has been a symbol of status and wealth, from decorating the temples of the East to adorning kings and queens.

At Theodor Cph, we have been inspired by the past's fascination with gold, and use yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum for our solid gold jewellery creations.

Investment

Invest in gold and diamonds

The acquisition of jewelry, precious metals and gemstones can be a very good and profitable investment

The values of precious metals and jewels have increased significantly in recent years and in some cases more than those of stock markets. In times of downturn, such assets have often been more stable than financial assets. Due to uncertainty, in the stock markets in particular, many investors have from time to time sought alternative “safe haven” investments, including raw materials, wine, art, jewelry, etc.

As an example, if you were to invest in jewelry, you not only get a beautiful thing to enjoy, but in fact, you also get a value-added investment, which may increase in value over time. However, you should be aware that you may become liable to tax in relation to any profit realised on the jewellery at its time of sale, but this is dependent on the purpose of your acquisition, your investment.

The Kimberly Process, established in 2003 between all major parties in the diamond industry, aims to reduce the trade in conflict diamonds and has so far reached 99.8%. As a result, there are hardly any conflict diamonds in circulation anymore. The definition of conflict diamonds is "Rough diamonds used to finance wars against governments".
